First acrylic nails

Hi girls,

Yesterday I got my first new set of acrylic nails. This was the first time I have ever had them done in a nail shop. It was particulary nice because Raven(SO) went with me, and had her nails done too. It was a very nice experience and I really love how they turned out.

I really enjoyed the entire experience. There was a little gawking and the girls who do the nails were not sure if I was there to get my nails done also, since Raven(SO) was with me, but they finally asked me and found a girl to do my nails.

I really enjoyed being pampered, and having perfect nails. I have had great luck growing my own nails, and tne new ones are about the same length, but? ............. I have no broken, chiped, or uneven length nails. All my nails long and unchilpped. And it made me feel terrific.

I am sure I will continue to have my nails done in the future now that I have experienced it. I highly reccomend it to anyone who may be considering it.

Yes, those look very nice!

Personally, I can't stand the smell of nail polish or the removers.
Same thing with most hair salons.

My biggest concern is how to get the nails off.
I really don't like to soak my hands in acetone!

I ordered a set of nails from a CD/TG outfit, but I haven't put them on yet.

I did find some nice, hmm, I don't know what to call it...organic, non-harsh-chemical, nail polish from the local health food store.

You know I've always wanted to know that. Can you take off acrylic nails once they are on? Is it hard to do, if it can be done?

I haven't done acrylic nails yet, but manicures are definitely worth the expense. The experience of being "pampered" is worth every penny.

Very nice Elizabeth.

I've been growing mine long for the Vegas trip. I even keep a light pink polish on them. No one notices the polish, not even my wife. She just comments on the length. 1 of the pinky nails broke a couple of days ago, but they grow quick, so hopefully it will catch up with the others.

Pretty Nails polish remover is very fast and effecient for removing polish. It has no acetone in it. Comes in a 3" dia. round container with a sponge filling. Plunge your finger in the sponge, twist and turn, and voila (most of the time, red is a little harder to get off).

Fitting I am reading this while I remove a fake nail. The trick to removing them is to file off as much of the fake nail as possible first. This includes the glue wrap whatever on the complete nail bed. Be careful not to file your actual nail or you will thin it out and weaken it. After filing, soak for a few minutes in acetone, then immediately scrape it off. You might need to repeat the soak/scrape process a few times. If done carefully, your real nails should remain somewhat intact. It is likely your nails will sustain some damage. For this reason, I try very hard not to break my real nails.

Genifer,
When you say 'file down', do you mean just shortening the length to that of your real nails?
OR
Do you mean to also 'thin down' the fake nail almost to your real nail beneath?

Yes, thin down the nail as much as possible. This is where you must be careful not to file your actual nail. Better to err on the side of leaving too much. One spot to be especially careful is at the side edges. If this area is weak the nail may start to tear and break easily under stress. I found the acrylic nails come off much easier when you file most of them off first.

I've used those stick on ones for a while now. Not as 'permanent' as the other kind but it works.
