Skirt

Post by Carol Ann »

Now my wife is always fussing at me as to where I wear my skirt. I always use my belly button as a guide as to where it should be, right or wrong?

Hi, Carol Ann -

I've always used my belly button as a general guide, also, as that is usually a person's "natural waist".

Some of my skirts, even some slacks, are higher or lower waisted than others, and must be worn accordingly. However, I've found that those items with a higher/lower waist usually let the buyer know on the sales tag.

Whether higher, natural, or lower waisted items look better on you - that all depends on your overall build and the look/style you are trying to create.

Carol Ann,
My daughters give me grief about where my waistband falls too. It really depends on the skirt.
Sorry not to be more help :(

I think that the extra height men have is made up mostly in the torso. So our midsection perhaps has different proportions to that of GGs even without the whole hourglass figure considerations. The right height on a woman might not look right on a man.

Personally I solve this with long tops that reach down to obscure the confusing area around my belly button. If I tuck the top in it always looks wrong.

The notion of men's torsos being longer may be appropos. I personally wear my skirts about 1/2 inch below my belly button, but I'm 5'3" and maybe that has something to do with it. Carol Ann, I would think your wife, standing there looking at you and offering advice, probably has a better grip on this than the rest of us...

You might ask her whether she wants you to wear it higher or lower and why?

This is true. Adora and I have tested this, actually (it was the result of one of our martial arts instructors pointing this out). She's quite a bit taller than I am, but our legs stop at pretty much the same place.

Personally, I wear most of my clothing around my hips, but that is just a comfort thing. I always buy the types of clothing that are "hip-hugging", I guess you could say. If I buy anything that is meant for the waist, I just sit there and fidgit all day until I can get home and change :P

Well, for me it is a comfort thing. My mother to this day gets on my case about wearing my clothes around my hips :P. She wears everything around her waist.

I really think it might be a comfort/make of the skirt sort of thing.

I think you have to go with what looks good and feels right.

I prefer the hip hugging styles also, it's the only thing I wear in jeans and pants. Skirts can be a little different though, and a long top certainly gives one much flexibility.

But... if your SO is giving you advise.... you should listen!

skirt

With my belly hanging low now, I find my smallest part of the waist about 1" above the brelly button, thus this is where I wear the skirt.
