Is there an easier way to locate an album? - Answered

Post by Jacqueline Manesis »

Most of the forums I have belonged to in the past ( not just CD related ) have a way to click on and view any users gallery right in the thread. If not in the thread there is usually a link to the users albums in their profile. Is the only way to remember the persons name, go to the photo album section and try to find that users album??

I once asked our moderators if there was a way to alphabetize the photo gallery albums to make it easier to find things. The response was that it wasn't possible at that time. Perhaps things have changed and they could do that now. Only they can tell us if it's possible.

Hi Gals,

It's my understanding that the photo gallery was "sequestered" the way it is in order to protect the privacy of members. Because the general areas of the forum are viewable by the public at large, the decision was made not to provide a direct link to the gallery from those areas. For the same reason, no link is provided to the gallery on a member's profile page. If I'm not mistaken, the link to the gallery at the top of the index page (or on the welcome page, for that matter) does not appear when those pages are viewed by non-members.

As to the order of the albums on the gallery, I'll admit that I've had to hunt and browse before finding what I was looking for, too. Personally, I don't mind so much as it gives me a chance, precisely, to browse through albums I would not otherwise encounter (seeing as I don't frequent the gallery all that much). Maybe one day, the gallery will have its albums organized alphabetically. This'll be up to the admins to see to it, if they're so inclined, and if they have the time.

Love,
CJ

You are 100% correct in your understanding, CJ. Only members of the forum may have access to the Photo Gallery and as such no links are provided in member's profiles. The link to the Photo Gallery is accessible only to the members of the forum. In addition, if the Mods or SA's see a link to a member's album (in our Gallery) in a post, we will generally remove it to protect that member's privacy from the general public. The only times that those links are left in is upon permission from that member - meaning, they have no problems with the general public being able to look at their photos.

Right now, the Gallery is organized according to the date the member joined the forum. Therefore, the 'older' members are first, and the newer members are towards the end. For example, Virginia joined in February 2004 and her Gallery is currently on page 1; I joined in November 2005, and my Gallery is on page 7. I believe we have just started page 10 in the Gallery. Locations of the member's albums would fluctuate depending upon other members who joined prior to them and deciding to open an album.

I agree that the Gallery being organized alphabetically would be a nice idea, but that would be up to Sharon(SO) and Jadeanne to make that decision, and I know that would not necessarily be an easy project to tackle. In the meantime, I don't mind browsing through the various pages of the Gallery and for the same reason CJ cited - it gives me a chance to look at other albums I would not normally visit.
