Went to Hooters among other places

Hi girls,

Another thing I had on my "to do" list was going to a Hooters en-femme. I finally got the courage to do that yesterday. There were a lot of male customers in there (they had a "sports bar" kind of setup) but no one seemed to even bat a second eye at me. Plus the girls working there were nice. It was definitely a great experience. If you can blend in there, you can go anywhere I think.

Another thing I did yesterday was use the ladies room. I've used ladies rooms before but it was either places that accommodate one at a time or if I used a public one, I always made sure it was reasonably empty. However, yesterday I really had to use one and there was a long line in the bathroom (many stalls in there too but a lot of people too). Well I waited in line with the other girls. No one even gave a second glance. If anyone had reacted, I was prepared to vacate but that never happened. Once it was my turn I went in the stall and of course pointed my feet in the right direction like I always do, came out, washed my hands, touched up my lipstick and was done. Perfectly uneventful.

After I went to a regular club, one of my CD friends called me on my cell and said they were going to a TG place to help celebrate a birthday of one of our other friends. She asked if I wanted to come and I said yes. She came by the club to pick me up (I didn't bring my car). We went and had a good time. A couple of our GG friends went with us to the TG hangout and they liked it.

Later my friend said that when she came and got me at the club, she had to go through twice as she didn't see me the first time; she remarked that I did a good job of blending in with the GG's that were there. Of course that is always my goal: to blend in as a woman and not attract attention; it's nice to have that reaffirmed too. I have also noticed lately that when walking the streets, as long as I am dressed mainstream, most don't even seem to notice. So I guess the point is anyone can blend in and be one of the girls as long as you act the part.

Hi Steffie,
You amaze and inspire me with all that you do.I would like to ask, do you go out by yourself?If so,what do you do to protect yourself other than blending in?I want to get out again myself but it would be alone and that more than anything is holding me back.Your pictures are amazing as always

Sometimes I go with friends but sometimes solo too.

To protect myself? I just try and always be aware of my surroundings and always look others in the eye. If you hold your head down, it looks like you feel as if you don't belong but if you hold your head up and act like you do when you are in male mode (i.e that you belong there), then people will not notice or bother you I think.

Jennifer does raise a very valid question and I am glad that you keep yourself alert and aware!

I can remember ending up in Harlem at 2:00 am once --- well that is a whole other story!

Anyway, proud of you girlfriend and you are definitely an inspiration to your sisters here and it shows that YES we are being more accepted and as you stated, look the part, act the part, try and "fit-in" and be aware and have fun!

I’ve never mustered the courage to take a trip to a nearby city dressed en femme — I admire your spunk! Over the last five years, though, I’ve been to eleven TG conferences, each of which has entailed getting out in public to some degree (restaurants, shoe stores, etc.).

I absolutely 100% agree with your point about avoiding hassles that, in extreme cases, could even involve some danger: “If you hold your head down, it looks like you feel as if you don't belong, but if you hold your head up and act like you do when you are in male mode … then people will not … bother you ….” That’s a wonderful insight. When someone is looking at you like they are a bit non-plused and potentially hostile, just straighten up, give them a friendly smile, and say “Hi!” in a sincere and friendly tone of voice. It immediately defuses the situation.

Steffie is right, I notice some of my other girlfriends tend to look down when out in public and used to as well. You draw more attention to yourself that way. Women notice each other and usually smile, whereas men notice women but aren't usally looking at their face, lol. It is important to act like you belong or fit in whether you feel that way or not. Congrats again to Steffie, wow...HOOTERS! AWESOME.
