Actually, any mind, educated or otherwise, can do that. I assume there is a context from which Aristotle’s statement takes some meaning.

What is the original source of the quotation from Aristotle? What was the context in which it originally was expressed? Was it a response to Plato? If so, what was the exchange between the two men about? Was it about the military aspirations of Alexander the Great? As any C student in a freshman English class knows, a few words taken out of context never have a self-evident meaning. Presumably, any mind, educated or not, can consider a thought. What differentiates the erudite from the fakers is their understanding of the context and what they do after the “entertaining” is over.

That suggests what is sorely lacking in a mindless regurgitation of material from a book of quotations. If creativity is conceiving something that does not already exist, where is the creativity?

Ah, but by taking a quote out of context, one can stimulate creativity :)

For instance, my favorite quote to take out of context and ponder is:

"Quoth the Raven 'Nevermore"

Edgar Allen Poe.

Now, I love The Poem "The Raven" and have read and re-read it many times. I understand that quote in context very well, but if I want to spark my imagination, I ponder the above quote :) That quote may inspire me to write a poem, write a short story, or scetch the Raven or how I see "Nevermore".

It seems to me that unless you know something about Poe’s life and his obsession with the women he had loved and lost through death — his sorrow for the loss of Lenore (or the persons she symbolized) — it is hard to imagine that you could gain anything valuable from reading, “Quoth the raven, ‘Nevermore.’” The meaning of that line, taken in isolation, simply is not self-evident! The poem is about death and lingering sorrow. If you know the context and can write something insightful on the subject, fine. My comment was about mindless regurgitation on a promiscuous variety of subjects, which suggests that the writer does not have the foggiest idea what he is talking about and does not respect ideas.

“Ritalin is a drug that is typically prescribed for the treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, more commonly known by the acronym ADHD. ADHD is simply a condition in which a person exhibits a very short attention span, is excessively active (e.g., posting in a forum almost 1600 times in less than a year), and highly impulsive. Ritalin is typically used as part of a broader treatment plan, a treatment plan that should include psychological, educational, and even social measures. Ritalin is also used to treat narcolepsy.”

Hi Jamie Ann ..o)..

Ah, you don't need to know very much about the " The Raven" to be inspired by that quote :) The point is not to understand the original meaning, but to allow the quote to stimulate new thoughts and ideas. If I want information on the original meaning of a particular quote, I will seek it out. But for the most part I prefer to view these quotes as points to muse over. My preference :)

Ah, I do indeed have several original poems posted here:

I also have a short story poem, I will be posting in the near future, that was inspired by the name on a headstone. I didn't need to know anything about that person to be inspired by their name

My suggestion had nothing to do with this (link). It had to do with the mindless copying of quotations from a book, without any commentary or any indication of how the quotation relates to anything that has gone before.  In my opinion, the latter demeans the Crossdressers Forum.  It is embarrassing that Beauty and CJ cannot tell the difference between material that should be in “Creativity Corner” and material that is mindless copying, but I feel that someone ought to have the intellectual integrity to point out the difference.  If pointing out the difference makes anyone angry with me, so be it.  If “Creativity Corner” means anything, it means being able to speak truth to power. Allowing a quote to stimulate new thoughts and ideas without knowing what the author intended is a crock. What the hell are you talking about?
